U.S.-based streaming service Disney+ and Chinese social media giant TikTok have launched a new content-sharing partnership. The two companies signed an agreement they described as the first of its kind, paving the way for Disney-themed TikTok videos to appear on both platforms.
Under the agreement, videos selected by users who opt in to cross-platform distribution will be published on both TikTok and the Verts section of Disney+. The arrangement will give creators an opportunity to reach a wider audience while bringing Disney+ subscribers new content to discover on the platform each day.
The financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed, and the initiative will initially be rolled out in the U.S. market. TikTok is known to have more than 200 million users in the United States. The plan calls for the partnership to expand to other markets later.
Asad Ayaz, Disney's chief marketing and brand officer, said the agreement “builds a new bridge between the stories we tell and the creativity of content creators.” Ayaz added that it “gives creators a bigger stage on which to share what they make and audiences more content to discover on Disney+ every day.”
The two companies will also unlock special rewards for creators selected as “the best in their field.” These creators will gain greater visibility on the platforms.
