Tensions between Iran and the United States and developments in Gaza were among the main topics of Monday’s phone call between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump. The two leaders also assessed bilateral relations and regional and global developments.
According to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, Erdoğan said diplomacy should be used to the fullest extent as tensions between Iran and the United States continued. Erdoğan said he hoped negotiations would continue and expressed Türkiye’s commitment to maintaining its support for peace efforts.
Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreement
Erdoğan also commented on the Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement signed this month between Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He said the agreement demonstrated a strong stance in ensuring regional stability and security.
Agenda for Gaza’s second phase
The situation in Gaza was also discussed during the phone call. Erdoğan said that, at a time when the goal was to move to the second phase of the peace process, the Israeli government’s actions targeting Palestinians had intensified.
Erdoğan also said Türkiye would continue to support the establishment of lasting peace in the region and steps to be taken for the reconstruction of Gaza.
