FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the World Cup, football's biggest event, could grow even larger. Infantino said that the possibility of expanding the tournament to 64 teams will be discussed in the relevant committees after the 2026 World Cup, currently underway in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking to Switzerland's Blue Sport portal, the FIFA President said, "Every nation should be allowed to dream of participating in the World Cup." Infantino also described the tournament, where 48 national teams are competing for the first time this year, as "a tremendous success."

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, will end on July 19. The tournament is taking place with 48 teams for the first time in its history.
