The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it completed its third airstrike against Iran during the week on Sunday morning. The statement said that the operation, carried out by warplanes using precision-guided munitions, struck approximately 140 military targets.
The strike was carried out in response to Iran's attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM emphasized that the main objective of these operations, conducted under the direction of President Donald Trump, is to degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels and mariners.
Targets Destroyed
The targets destroyed included missile and drone storage sites, military arsenals, communication systems, coastal observation posts and naval facilities. Over the three nights of operations, more than 300 targets in total were destroyed.
U.S. Activity in the Region
U.S. forces have provided safe escort to more than 800 commercial ships and approximately 400 million barrels of crude oil in the Strait of Hormuz since early May.
The U.S. military had previously carried out strikes against Iran on July 7 and 8, citing Iran's targeting of commercial ships as the justification.
