A drone struck a locomotive at Yahodyn Station in Ukraine’s Volyn region while former CIA Director David Petraeus was allegedly aboard another train at the station.
The incident occurred on September 13 at the station, located about 2 kilometers from the Polish border. A diplomatic train carrying European officials crossed the Ukraine-Poland border several minutes before the attack.
The diplomatic train carried former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt and the United Kingdom’s national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, along with security advisers from several European Union countries. Petraeus was allegedly aboard the other train at the station during the attack.
Ukrainian Railways said an official from the Central Monitoring Group detected the drone approaching the locomotive. The company said a warning was issued about 15 minutes before the attack to evacuate the train and announced that routes and schedules were being changed continuously because of the threats.
It remains unconfirmed whether the diplomatic train was the target. Ukrainian Railways said attempts to attack civilian rail vehicles were continuing and called for security instructions to be followed promptly.
