Three people died at the scene and one was hospitalized after a fire broke out following a helicopter crash Tuesday evening in Los Angeles' Chatsworth neighborhood.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said four people were assessed by medical crews after the crash. Authorities have not provided an update on the hospitalized person's condition.
Federal agencies to investigate
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the helicopter crash to determine its cause. The Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed that the helicopter did not belong to the department.
Local media outlets identified the helicopter as belonging to NBC Los Angeles and said it had been filming the area where a major bus crash, previously reported to have killed at least two people, occurred. However, Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Branden Silverman said officials had not definitively determined that the helicopter was a news helicopter and that the information had not yet been confirmed.
Karen Bass offers condolences
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said she was deeply saddened by the loss of life in Chatsworth. Bass offered her condolences to the families of those who died in the bus and helicopter crashes.
Bass also said she received information at the scene from fire and public safety officials and that response crews continued their work.
