Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf's expected visit to Iraq on Wednesday will bring regional developments and the future of Tehran-Baghdad relations to the agenda.
Ghalibaf is scheduled to meet with Iraqi officials and other senior figures. The talks are expected to focus on strengthening strategic cooperation between Iran and Iraq and evaluating joint steps that could contribute to stability and security in West Asia.
Border security and economic cooperation on the agenda
Improving relations, border security and counterterrorism will be among the main topics of the talks. Expanding economic cooperation and implementing previously signed agreements will also be discussed.
Visit follows attack on Barzani's residence
Ghalibaf serves as Iran's chief negotiator in its talks with the United States. His visit to Iraq will take place days after a drone attack targeted the residence and private office of Masrour Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, in northern Iraq.
Baghdad requested an official explanation from Tehran following the attack. Iran denied claims that it was involved in the attack and condemned the incident.
