Nake Hamed, a Palestinian journalist who also holds U.S. citizenship, was detained by the Israeli army at a temporary checkpoint near the West Bank city of Bethlehem.
Sources in the Israeli army accused Hamed, who works for Iran’s state broadcaster Press TV, of collaborating with a hostile organization. They said he could become the subject of an investigation on suspicion of espionage.
The accusation does not mean that a final court ruling has been issued against Hamed.
Hamed’s family said Israeli soldiers detained the journalist as he was returning from reporting in the West Bank.
Family members said Hamed’s reporting on the community of Qusra, which had been subjected to attacks by illegal Israeli settlers, brought him to the attention of Israeli authorities.
