Oscar-winning Spanish actor Bardem announced on social media that he supported calls to stop buying Adidas products.
In his stories, Bardem shared posts by pro-Palestinian organizations and activists criticizing Adidas’s advertising campaign. The actor also joined calls to sabotage the brand’s campaign.
Expressing his criticism of Adidas in a post, Bardem objected to the brand’s choice of advertising figure, saying, “Adidas chose a man with blood on his hands.”
The actor also boycotted Adidas during last summer’s FIFA World Cup. Instead of the classic red jersey associated with the Spanish national team, Bardem wore a green jersey. He had previously shown his support for the Palestinian people by wearing a Palestinian scarf at the Emmy Awards and a “No to War” badge at the Goya Awards.
In 2021, Adidas featured in a “one-shoe service” advertisement a soldier who had taken part in attacks on Gaza and lost his leg while serving in the Israeli army. The company issued an official apology after facing backlash and calls for a boycott following the advertising campaign.
