The Israeli cabinet unanimously adopted a resolution officially recognizing the 1915 events as genocide. The decision was brought to the cabinet agenda by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.

Sa’ar described the step as a "moral and historical obligation" and stated that Israel would also condemn any attempt to deny, belittle, or distort the Armenian Genocide.
Following the cabinet approval, the draft resolution will be brought to the agenda of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset. This step came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu individually described the 1915 events as genocide in August 2025.
Turkey had previously described Netanyahu’s statement as an attempt at exploitation for political motives. Israel’s official recognition decision could bring a new crisis in diplomatic relations between the two countries.
