US Representative Max Miller held a live broadcast on X to deny his ex-wife Emily Moreno's allegations of physical abuse against him and their daughter. Miller, saying "I have nothing to hide," maintained that the allegations were baseless and shared documents prepared by his lawyers as evidence.
In the approximately 17-minute broadcast, Miller pointed to his ex-wife's mental health issues and said the allegations emerged after the divorce. Saying "They are portraying me as an abuser, but there is no evidence against me," Miller stated that no court or institution has verified these claims.
Senator Bernie Moreno, however, stood by his daughter's allegations and called for Miller's resignation and for him to "seek serious psychological help." Moreno said, "Max Miller is becoming increasingly unstable and dangerous. He poses a threat to my daughter."
Miller denied one by one his ex-wife's allegations that she threw him against a wall, held a gun to his head, and poured hot water on him. Regarding the gun incident, he said, "This never happened. Two days after the alleged incident, she invited me to dinner and to stay overnight." As for the hot water incident, he said it was joking around in the kitchen, that he sprayed tap water, and that no medical intervention was required.
Miller also denied the abuse allegations concerning his daughter, stating that none of the investigations by the child protective services confirmed them. Regarding his daughter's broken collarbone, he explained that the injury was noticed after he handed the girl over to her mother and that the investigation was closed without any finding of abuse.
While Democrats are targeting Miller's seat, the deadline for resignation is stated to be Wednesday. Miller, however, said he will not drop out of the race and will win in November. Miller's Democratic opponent Brian Poindexter made a statement: "No one accused of holding a gun to his wife's head and breaking his 2-year-old daughter's collarbone should be in the corridors of power."
Miller filed defamation lawsuits against his ex-wife and former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham. Grisham had previously accused Miller of physical abuse, but the parties had reached a confidential settlement. Grisham filed a new lawsuit in July, citing violation of the settlement terms.
In the final part of the broadcast, Miller criticized the media, accusing them of reporting the allegations without examining the evidence. "Journalism must ask tough questions, examine the evidence, and tell the whole story," he said.
