More than 175,000 visas issued to foreign nationals were canceled during the Trump administration. The US State Department said a significant portion of the actions followed law-enforcement proceedings linked to criminal activity.
Reasons for the visa cancellations
In its information note, the department listed assault, driving under the influence, theft and drug-related crimes among the main reasons. Reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, fraud and embezzlement were also among the crimes involved in other cases.
The US State Department said it conducts continuous reviews to determine whether visa holders are complying with visa requirements and whether they pose a threat to Americans.

Reviews and investigations will continue
The department said the Trump administration would continue efforts to identify and investigate foreign nationals believed to pose a threat to US security or national security.
The US State Department said visas are a privilege, not a right, and noted that it would continue using its existing authorities to cancel the visas of people who abuse that privilege.
