Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators took to the streets of Manhattan on Wednesday, the third anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel.
Under the banner of a "liberation in action" event, protesters gathered near City Hall in Lower Manhattan and moved through Wall Street, Washington Square Park and Union Square before organizers told them to disperse at Madison Square Park in the evening. Many waved Palestinian flags and covered their faces with masks and keffiyehs.

Clashing scenes in Union Square
In Union Square, hundreds of the protesters swamped a vigil held by the left-wing group Israelis for Peace, forcing organizers to move it behind police barricades. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who attended the vigil, was met with chants of "traitor." Some protesters also chanted slogans praising Hamas and calling to "keep the intifada alive," and one demonstrator set fire to an Israeli flag, according to reports.
