Russia and Ukraine exchanged 270 prisoners of war each in their first swap since August, handing over the soldiers at the Novaya Guta crossing on the Belarus-Ukraine border.
Russia's Defense Ministry said 270 Russian servicemen had been returned in exchange for 270 Ukrainian prisoners. The freed Russian soldiers are receiving medical and psychological care in Belarus before being taken home.
'Held since 2022'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the exchange an important result, noting that many of the returning Ukrainians had been held in captivity since 2022.

A day earlier, the two sides exchanged the bodies of 277 fallen soldiers each at the same crossing, and 12 families were reunited with mediation from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
