Serbian President Vucic announced that he would resign from the presidency on September 27. Speaking on a television program, Vucic said he would address the public on the evening of his resignation and thank those who had supported him.
Vucic said he was the longest-serving president since Serbia adopted a multiparty system. He said this could not have been achieved without the support of the country's citizens, adding that he had served Serbia and its citizens with loyalty, hard work and dedication.
He will tour villages during the early election campaign
Vucic said that after his resignation, he would join the campaign for the early general election to be held on October 25 as an ordinary citizen. He said he had bought a small truck, a car and a caravan for the campaign.
Vucic said he would visit the country's most remote villages and stay in the caravan in places where he remained until late hours. He said there were thousands of villages he had not yet visited and added that he also wanted to tour the cities.
