Zelensky, saying that Russia continues to target food, energy and other critical infrastructure in Ukraine, urged the allies to reach an agreement with Russia to end the attacks.
Zelensky said Ukraine does not trust Russia to honor any agreement, adding that Kyiv is ready to halt its own attacks if Moscow demonstrates a genuine willingness to stop attacking electricity supplies, energy facilities, critical infrastructure and food shipments.
Zelensky also addressed parliamentary elections reportedly scheduled to take place in Russia on Sept. 18. He argued that even if an agreement is reached, it should not serve to resolve fuel supply problems in Russia during the election process.
Saying that the war must end, Zelensky said a step to reduce tensions surrounding attacks on critical infrastructure could mark the beginning of a path toward peace. The Ukrainian leader said he expects concrete steps from his partners.
Trump had said attacks on energy targets would stop
U.S. President Donald Trump had previously said that Ukraine and Russia would not strike each other’s energy targets. Trump said the two sides had agreed to halt attacks on energy targets.
Trump also said that the main cause of the rise in diesel prices worldwide was largely the Russia-Ukraine War, rather than Iran.
