U.S. President Donald Trump has shared an image on Truth Social captioned “Hello, Greenland!” showing him peering out from behind a mountain ridge over a town of colorful houses in Greenland.
The post came days after hundreds of Greenlanders protested outside the newly opened U.S. consulate in the capital, Nuuk, chanting “No means no” and “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders,” during a visit by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, whom Trump appointed as special envoy to Greenland last December.

“Not for sale”

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, who met Landry but skipped the consulate’s opening, told reporters: “The Greenlandic people are not for sale. Greenlandic self-determination is not something that can be negotiated.” A White House spokesperson said Landry “had a productive meeting” with Greenland’s prime minister and foreign minister.
Since returning to office, Trump has repeatedly raised the prospect of greater U.S. control over Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, arguing that the island is critical for U.S. security against Russia and China.
