Speaking about the decision by 12 countries to ban trade with Israeli settlements, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would discuss the issue with Israel and hear its views.
Trump answered reporters’ questions Wednesday while traveling from Washington to Texas. Saying he had only recently seen the decision, Trump said he understood what had happened but wanted to learn why the step had been taken now.
Trump was also asked whether the United States supported the initiative. The U.S. president said he would address the issue with Israel and listen to Israel’s views.
The foreign ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement Tuesday.
The statement said steps would be taken to ban trade in products from illegal Israeli settlements established in the occupied Palestinian territories.
