A team led by Op. Dr. Gültekin Koçun, an Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist at Medicana International Izmir Hospital, has developed an AI-assisted diagnostic model for the early and accurate diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy cases, which pose a serious risk to women's health.
The developed AI model succeeded in detecting ectopic pregnancy cases with a clinical accuracy rate of 99 percent. The system also differentiated healthy pregnancies with 99.8 percent accuracy, reducing the probability of misdiagnosis to below 1 percent.
This innovative study was published in IEEE Access, a prestigious international scientific journal in engineering and technology, taking its place in the global literature.
Early and accurate diagnosis is critical
Op. Dr. Gültekin Koçun emphasized that in ectopic pregnancy, not only early diagnosis but also accurate diagnosis is vital. He stated that when diagnosed early, patients can be treated with medication that stops cell growth without the need for surgical intervention, and the pregnancy tissue can be absorbed by the body.
Koçun made the following statement:
Non-surgical treatment is of great importance for preserving the patient's future reproductive health. Thanks to this AI support we have developed, as physicians we will be able to receive alerts at a much earlier stage. In most cases, appropriate treatment can be administered to the patient without even considering surgery.
