Symptoms and risks of measles
Measles is an extremely contagious disease transmitted primarily through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks, spreading small droplets containing the virus.
The disease can cause fever and a red, slightly raised rash. In some cases, it can lead to ear infections, pneumonia, diarrhea or encephalitis, which can also carry a risk of brain damage.
Severe cases of measles can result in hospitalization and death. Medical experts say the best way to prevent the disease is measles vaccination.
