The U.S. Secret Service decided to keep three employees from its communications unit on administrative leave until a possible misconduct investigation is completed. Communications chief Anthony Guglielmi was among those placed on leave.
All three employees were identified as non-law-enforcement personnel. Their security clearances were temporarily suspended, and their access to government-issued devices was revoked.
Office of Professional Responsibility leads the review
The Secret Service did not disclose the names of the employees placed on leave or the nature of the possible misconduct at the center of the investigation.
An agency spokesperson said the three employees would remain on administrative leave until the investigation is completed. The Secret Service's Office of Professional Responsibility is leading the review.
The Secret Service said it remains committed to standards of professionalism and integrity. The agency also stressed that it continues to carry out its duty to protect the president and other senior government officials.
Oversight increased after threats against Trump
The decision to place the employees on leave came as the Secret Service faced increased scrutiny following assassination attempts targeting President Donald Trump and other security incidents.
The agency also faced questions over how information related to a security operation reportedly conducted during Trump's visit to Türkiye this summer was handled.
An investigation into a leak was launched after reports that Trump had not used the aircraft gifted to him by Qatar because of concerns related to possible Iranian threats. FBI Director Kash Patel may have helped establish the initial leak review within the White House.
