Consular services at US embassies and consulates in Brazil were suspended on Friday, October 2, on security grounds ahead of the general elections to be held on Sunday.
The US Mission did not announce when services would resume. US citizens in need of emergency assistance were urged not to go to embassies, consulates or other diplomatic facilities, but instead to contact the duty officer.

Australia’s Embassy in Brasilia closed
Australia’s embassy in the capital, Brasilia, was also closed on Friday due to security concerns. Australia’s Ambassador to Brazil, Sophie Davies, said those needing consular assistance should contact the Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra.
