US Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen called for an end to Washington’s complicity in Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.
Van Hollen made the call after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that a plan to displace Palestinians in Gaza remained under consideration.
Katz said that US President Donald Trump had not abandoned his plan to remove Palestinians from Gaza, but had only paused its implementation. Responding to the remarks, Van Hollen said the United States should end its complicity in Israel’s actions.
Van Hollen also recalled his visit to the Gaza Strip’s border with Egypt last year with Senator Jeff Merkley. He said that a report published after the visit assessed that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was implementing a plan for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza.
Van Hollen argued that the Israeli defense minister’s remarks confirmed this objective and renewed his call for Washington to end its complicity with Israel.
