A detail from the will of Aaron Bushnell, the US Air Force member who set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington in February 2024, has drawn renewed attention: Bushnell left his savings to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF). The information is not new. It was first reported by NPR on February 26, 2024, the day after his death.
Bushnell, 25, an active-duty member of the US Air Force, set himself on fire in front of the embassy on February 25, 2024, in protest against the war in Gaza. Before doing so, he said: "I am an active duty member of the United States Air Force. And I will no longer be complicit in genocide." He died of his injuries later that day.

"He made a will"
NPR correspondent Quil Lawrence reported at the time that Bushnell had planned his act carefully: "He made a will, and he specified that his savings should be donated to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund and everything down to arranging that a neighbor would take care of his cat."

Founded in 1991, the PCRF is a US-registered nonprofit that, according to HuffPost, has been delivering lifesaving medical relief and humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The day after his death, more than 100 people gathered for a candlelight vigil outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington. In March 2024, the West Bank city of Jericho named a street after him.
