Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has published a video recorded in the prison cell of Palestinian prisoner Hassan Salameh, in which the minister, flanked by masked and armed guards, tells the handcuffed inmate: “I want to kill you. I want to execute you.”

In a statement accompanying the video, Ben-Gvir said that if he is appointed defense minister after next month’s elections, he would seek the execution of prisoners like Salameh and encourage the “voluntary emigration” of Palestinians from Gaza and the occupied West Bank. His far-right Jewish Power party is demanding the defense and justice portfolios in coalition talks.

Salameh, held in Israeli prisons since 1996, is serving multiple life sentences over bombings Israel attributes to him in the 1990s. In March, the Israeli parliament passed a law championed by Ben-Gvir that allows the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners in certain cases.
