U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said 55 commercial vessels were redirected during enforcement of the blockade of Iran, adding that two vessels were disabled and two others were boarded and action was taken.
CENTCOM said U.S. sailors were on watch aboard the USS Ross (DDG 71), a warship operating in the Middle East. The USS Ross was among more than 20 U.S. warships supporting military missions, including enforcement of the blockade.
The command did not identify the redirected vessels or explain the circumstances under which action was taken aboard them.

The conflict between the United States and Iran
The conflict between Iran and the United States began after the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Tehran in February. Iran responded with drone and missile attacks on Gulf countries hosting U.S. forces.
The United States and Iran agreed to a ceasefire in April. In June, the two countries signed an agreement brokered by Pakistan that aimed to end their military conflict and reach a lasting peace deal.
The agreement collapsed last month, and the sides carried out reciprocal attacks for roughly two weeks. Donald Trump halted the bombing after reports that talks aimed at ending the conflict were continuing.
