Odenplan Square hosted a demonstration in Sweden calling for an end to attacks on Gaza and Lebanon. At the protest, organized at the call of numerous civil society organizations, demonstrators chanted slogans against Israel.
Demonstrators carried placards saying that civilians were being killed in Gaza and that schools and hospitals were being bombed. The signs called for an end to the attacks on Lebanon and food shortages, as well as an end to the war.
Arnholt criticizes political parties
Swedish activist Jonas Arnholt, who supported the demonstration, argued that the humanitarian catastrophe stemmed from the freedom granted to Israel to continue its attacks. Arnholt also criticized Israel’s attacks in Gaza and its raids in the West Bank.
Describing Israel as a “terrorist state,” Arnholt said politicians opposed to Zionism should come to power in countries.
Commenting on the elections to be held in Sweden on September 13, Arnholt argued that the parties in parliament had failed to take a clear position against Israel’s policies. Arnholt maintained that the existing parties, including the Left Party, had not distanced themselves from what he described as Israel’s war policy.
Arnholt also said that some parties pointed to Iran when discussing responsibility for the war, and included this approach in his assessment.
