Israeli attacks that began overnight in southern Lebanon continued until Friday afternoon, with explosions heard in numerous villages and towns. The attacks took place as US-led diplomatic efforts were underway to establish new security arrangements between Israel and Lebanon.
The town of Mansouri was hit by an airstrike after 2 a.m. Explosions also occurred around Hadatha and At-Tiri, while the sound of the attacks was heard in many communities across southern Lebanon.
Targets around Tyre and Nabatieh
Israeli warplanes carried out flights over the city of Tyre and the surrounding villages and towns resembling air attack exercises. The Ali al-Taher Hill, Dabsha Hill and the area around Duhat Kafr Rumman near Nabatieh al-Fawqa were also among the targets of airstrikes.
Artillery fire was also directed at the area around Ali al-Taher Hill. Intermittent artillery fire was reported on Friday morning on the outskirts of Mayfadoun, toward Zawtar al-Sharqiyah.
Explosion between Arnoun and Kfar Tibnit
A major two-stage explosion occurred on Friday afternoon in the area between Arnoun and Kfar Tibnit. The sound of the explosion was heard in numerous towns across southern Lebanon.
Tensions rose again on March 2
Fighting between Israel and Lebanon escalated again on March 2. Israel launched extensive attacks on Lebanon, citing Hezbollah targets as the reason, while Hezbollah also carried out attacks against Israel.
The new round of fighting effectively ended the ceasefire in effect since November 2024 and led Israel to resume military operations across Lebanon.
US-led efforts seek security arrangements
US-led diplomatic initiatives are addressing the establishment of new security arrangements between Israel and Lebanon. These efforts include the withdrawal of Israeli forces, border security and areas where Hezbollah’s armed presence would be restricted.
Lebanon wants the Israeli attacks to end and Israeli forces to withdraw from its territory. Israel, meanwhile, is making a broader withdrawal and security arrangements conditional on measures to prevent Hezbollah from maintaining a military presence near the border.
