A 59-year-old man was stabbed to death on a J train at the Woodhaven Boulevard station in Queens on Wednesday evening, September 30, and a 25-year-old Bronx man has been charged with murder.
The victim, Mesias Lojano, was originally from Cuenca, Ecuador, and lived in Corona, less than a mile from where he was killed. Police said the attack happened at around 5:20 p.m., when an argument between the two men aboard the train escalated as they got off on the platform. The attacker allegedly pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed Lojano in the chest and neck before running away.

Lojano was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Video recorded by passengers shows several riders chasing the suspect out of the station and onto the street. Police said a witness pointed him out to officers, and he was taken into custody on the roof of a nearby building. The suspect, identified as Jyrell Thomas of the Bronx, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon and was taken for a psychiatric evaluation.
Police described the attack as apparently unprovoked. Thomas had one prior arrest, for petit larceny in the Bronx in September.
