Director Michael Mann, the filmmaker behind "Heat," "Collateral" and "The Insider," was taken to a hospital Saturday after accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a Los Angeles gun range, his representative said.
"On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann. He was treated and is being released," the representative said in a statement.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that officers and the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to The Range LA at about 4 p.m. Police described the incident as a training accident. According to TMZ, Mann, an experienced target shooter for decades, was trying to holster his weapon during target practice when it went off, and he was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Mann, 83, is known for meticulously researched crime dramas and for training his actors with real firearms experts. His films also include "Ali," "Public Enemies" and "Ferrari" (2023).
