Tarkan, the Turkish pop star known worldwide for his 1990s hit "Şımarık", has re-recorded his song "Uyan" in English for COP31, the 31st U.N. Climate Change Conference that Türkiye will host in Antalya. The English version is titled "Wake Up." The singer reportedly contributed to the project as a volunteer.
A call to wake up
Tarkan wrote both the music and lyrics of the original "Uyan," which means "wake up" in Turkish. In the roughly three-minute video, he sings amid burned forests, cracked dry land and ocean scenes, alongside images of plastic waste, delivering a message about individual and collective responsibility in the face of climate change.

Countdown to Antalya
COP31 will take place Nov. 9-20 at the Antalya EXPO Center on Türkiye's Mediterranean coast. Environment Minister Murat Kurum said 91 heads of state have confirmed attendance so far, with delegations from 196 countries, nearly 300 ministers and some 1.5 million visitors expected.
The song is part of Türkiye's music campaign for the summit, which earlier included an English-language song called "Let's COP" and a new promotional film featuring a figure skater on cracking ice.
