U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called on the Trump administration to pressure the Israeli government to protect Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.
In a statement Monday, Jeffries described the sieges and attacks on Palestinian-owned homes as unacceptable. He said civilians’ lives, property and livelihoods must be protected.
Attacks increase in the West Bank
Jeffries made his appeal as attacks against Palestinians increased in the West Bank. The United Nations said international concern was growing over the sieges and attacks on Palestinian homes.
According to United Nations data, more than 1,430 attacks targeting approximately 260 Palestinian communities have been documented since the beginning of the year. Alongside demolitions and forced evictions, the attacks displaced 3,800 Palestinians, about half of them children.
Casualty and detention figures
Attacks by Israeli forces and Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank increased after the war in Gaza began in October 2023.
According to figures released by Palestinian sources, more than 1,183 Palestinians were killed during this period, approximately 13,000 were injured and about 25,000 were detained.
