Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that, amid ongoing military tensions with the United States, any new attack targeting Iran’s interests or security would receive a faster, heavier and more painful response.
Speaking during Sunday’s parliamentary session, Ghalibaf argued that the era of “proportional responses” was over. The Iranian official warned that if the United States failed to understand this change, new attacks would lead to far more serious consequences.
Ghalibaf claimed that Iran’s latest missile and drone operations against US bases had put pressure on Washington. He also accused US officials of using artificial intelligence to produce images and videos depicting developments on the front.
Tensions continued after the agreement
Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding in June, with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators. The document called for an end to the clashes, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and discussions on economic restrictions.
However, the two sides accused each other of failing to implement the commitments under the agreement. Military tensions continued as disputes over sanctions and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz remained unresolved.
Clashes between Iran and the United States began after the US and Israel launched attacks against Iran in February. In response, Tehran carried out missile and drone attacks against US targets in the region.
During the clashes, Iran carried out multiple missile and drone attacks against US military facilities in the region. Washington also continued its military operations against Iranian targets.
