US forces had redirected 92 commercial ships by September 6 during the maritime blockade of Iran.
According to a statement by US Central Command, three ships were disabled and two were boarded to enforce compliance with the blockade rules.
The statement also said that a low-observable F-35A fighter jet belonging to the US Air Force had patrolled the waters in the area.
Clashes and tensions continue
The development came as tensions continued following the conflict that began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran in February. Iran responded by carrying out attacks on US targets across the region.
Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in June, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. The memorandum covered ending the clashes, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and addressing economic restrictions.
The sides later accused each other of failing to implement the commitments under the memorandum. Military tensions continued alongside disputes over sanctions and passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
