Roman Gofman, the new head of Israel's foreign intelligence agency Mossad, made his first official visit to Washington since assuming the role. US media reported that during his trip two weeks ago, he met with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and senior White House officials.
A source who spoke to CNN said that during the meeting, Gofman provided detailed intelligence about Iran's uranium enrichment activities, its economic situation, and the underground nuclear facility known as 'Balta Dağı'.
According to an Axios report citing two anonymous sources, the military option against Iran was also discussed during the Mossad chief's meetings. An Israeli source stated that another goal of the visit was to coordinate with the White House on the ongoing nuclear deal negotiations with Iran.
Before taking over as Mossad chief earlier this year, Gofman served as the military secretary to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. CIA Director Ratcliffe, who participated in the meetings, is among those who have expressed skepticism about the memorandum of understanding reached with Iran on June 18.
Neither the CIA nor Mossad has made an official statement regarding Roman Gofman's Washington visit.
