Olympic champion Noah Lyles clocked 9.79 seconds in the 100 meters at the US Outdoor Track and Field Championships, posting the world's fastest time in 2026. At Icahn Stadium in New York, Lyles once again matched his personal best from Paris 2024.
Lyles surpassed the previous year's best time of 9.82 set by Jamaican athlete Oblique Seville in June. The 29-year-old sprinter, who trailed at the start, finished strong with a powerful burst over the final 30 meters. Ronnie Baker and Kenny Bednarek clocked 9.88 to take second and third, respectively.
Lyles, who has six world titles, made history in 2023 in Budapest by winning gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay. He is now preparing for the 2027 World Championships in Beijing and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
In the women's 100m, Sha'Carri Richardson equaled the season's best with a time of 10.77 seconds to take first place. Richardson won silver in the same event at Paris 2024. Kayla White finished second in 10.90, and Tamari Davis was third in 11.00.
In the men's high jump, Tyus Wilson cleared 2.29 meters for a personal best to become champion. Scottie Vines followed with 2.26, and Shelby McEwen with 2.20.
In the women's triple jump, Yovine Andre took first with a personal best leap of 13.94 meters. Kayla Woods placed second with 13.75, and Kayla Pinkard third with 13.48.
In the hammer throw, Annette Echikunwoke won gold with a best mark of 75.47 meters on her first attempt. Rachel Richson (73.02) and Erin Reese (72.94) completed the podium.
In the half-marathon race walks, Nick Christie won the men's event in 1:31:57.11, while Lauren Harris took the women's title in 1:38:35.56. The championships are being held in New York for the first time since 1991, celebrating their 150th anniversary.
