Students from Palo Alto High School in California visited a mosque last fall as part of the school's Social Justice Program. The visit became the subject of a lawsuit after allegations that students were given Qurans and female students were encouraged to wear headscarves during the trip.
Some parents and former students alleged that Islam was presented in connection with social justice during the visit. The plaintiffs also claimed that photographs taken during the trip were posted online without permission from the families.
The group that filed the lawsuit consists of two Jewish parents, three former Jewish students, and Hindu and Zoroastrian parents. The lawsuit seeks action against the school district and Palo Alto High School Principal Brent Kline.
