Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced at a meeting with university administrators that he does not support continuing the war with the US. He said national resilience must be strengthened so that the country can withstand developments it will face in the coming period.
Pezeshkian said Iran should pursue a course that would prevent it from having to negotiate from a position of weakness. He asked universities to support the government in this direction.
Social conditions must guide economic decisions
Pezeshkian said economic measures must be prepared by taking current social conditions into account, warning that uncalculated steps could cause new harm instead of solving problems.
The Iranian president said Generation Z students’ contributions should be used to find solutions to society’s problems. He called on students to participate in preparing proposals for solutions rather than turning to protests.
Message of cooperation with all political currents
Pezeshkian said he had not established political ties with specific political groups during his time in office. He said he was open to all political currents and individuals who contribute to resolving the country’s crises.
New escalation in Iran-US clashes
After clashes began between Iran and the US, Tehran launched missile attacks against Israel and struck some US targets and bases in the region. Iran also announced that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic, a decision that caused widespread disruptions to energy and trade flows.
Washington and Tehran reached an understanding on June 18 that provided for an end to military operations. The understanding included guarantees concerning the passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the launch of negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days.
The understanding could not be implemented, and clashes resumed in July. As the US renewed its attacks on targets inside Iran, it also reimposed a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports.
