Qatar called for negotiations between Iran and the US to resume and for tensions in the region to be reduced. Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari made the remarks at a press conference in Doha.
Al-Ansari said that a renewed escalation was in no party’s interest. The Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesperson said his country was working with all its partners to find a peaceful solution and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar calls on Israel to end the escalation
Al-Ansari called on Israel to end its escalation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. He argued that Israel was using regional developments to create a new reality in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.
Iranian Revolutionary Guards announce attacks
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps said on Monday that it had shot down a US drone over the Strait of Hormuz and that the aircraft had fallen into Gulf waters.
The Revolutionary Guards also said ballistic missiles had been used to attack the King Hussein and Azraq air bases in Jordan. The statement said Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates had been targeted with explosive-laden drones.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards said the attacks were retaliation for an alleged US attack on Iran’s Larak Island on Sunday. The attack was said to have aimed to prevent the laying of sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for global energy shipments.
