Russia says unchecked drone development in the EU is increasing security risks

Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for European Affairs, said on Sept. 26 that unchecked drone production in the European Union poses risks to Russia and other countries. Russia says unchecked drone development in the EU is increasing security risks

Unchecked development of unmanned aerial vehicles in the European Union is increasing risks for Russia and other countries, according to Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for European Affairs.

In remarks on Sept. 26, Maslennikov said the EU’s efforts to draw on Kyiv’s experience in using drones were also increasing the risks. He said there was no oversight of these systems developed in the EU and that this could increase threats to infrastructure.

Russia argues that NATO and European Union countries have seen an unprecedented increase in military activity in recent years. While Moscow says it has no intention of attacking European countries, it maintains that the continuing expansion of military capabilities and militarization in Europe are heightening tensions and contributing nothing to resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
