Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a news conference after meeting U.S. President Donald Trump in New York, where he was attending the 81st United Nations General Assembly session.
Zelenskyy said the war must end as soon as possible and called on all sides to act without delay toward that goal. He said the leaders needed to meet to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Ready for trilateral talks with Putin
Zelenskyy said he was ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said Trump could work toward a summit bringing together the leaders of the United States, Russia and Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said the three countries’ leaders could address the war’s most important issues at the meeting and that he was ready for trilateral talks. However, he said he did not believe Putin was ready to end the war.
Condition for halting attacks on the energy sector
Zelenskyy said they had also discussed an energy ceasefire during his meeting with Trump and that Ukraine was ready for a ceasefire if Russia refrained from targeting Ukraine’s energy sector.
Zelenskyy said the United States would convey Ukraine’s proposals for an energy ceasefire to Russia.
Request for a license to produce Patriot missiles
The Ukrainian president also recalled that Ukraine had previously requested a U.S. license to produce the missiles used in Patriot air defense systems. He said work on the issue was continuing with relevant U.S. officials.
