President Donald Trump revived his long-running feud with Robert De Niro at a campaign rally in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Friday night, calling the actor a "moron" and saying "there's something wrong with him."
"By the way, is Robert De Niro a moron? He's a moron," Trump told the crowd. "I used to sort of like him or something, but now I can't even watch him. He's, like, gross." He also mocked the 83-year-old actor's comedic roles, saying he was "no good for comedies."
Hollywood tax credits
The attack came during an unexpected detour in which Trump said entertainment industry figures who had criticized him for years were now seeking his help as film and television production moves overseas. "Guys that have been saying bad crap about me for years are sitting up in my office," he said.
Trump argued that Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom had lured productions away from Hollywood with government incentives and suggested he could support tax credits to keep production in the United States.
A decade of insults
De Niro has been one of Trump's most outspoken critics in Hollywood, and the two have traded insults for nearly a decade. In May 2024, the actor appeared outside Trump's hush money trial in Manhattan at an event for President Joe Biden's re-election campaign.
Final midterm push in Florida
The Daytona Beach rally backed Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds and Sen. Ashley Moody ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. Trump also said he had approved an additional $184 million in FEMA disaster funding for 15 counties in Florida's Panhandle.
Protesters interrupted the speech several times. Hours before the rally, Volusia County authorities arrested a 21-year-old woman accused of threatening online to shoot Trump at the event, according to Sheriff Mike Chitwood.
