US President Donald Trump said his presidential authority is "limitless" following the war with Iran. Trump emphasized that the United States has "by far the most powerful military in the world."
US President Donald Trump addressed a question about what the conflict with Iran had taught him regarding the limits of presidential power in an interview with Axios published Thursday.
Trump stated, "There are no limits. I haven't learned that lesson yet. I know there are limits, but there aren't. We defeated them militarily, completely."
Highlighting the strength of the US military, Trump said, "We have the most powerful military in the world, by far. Who else could have carried out a blockade like that? I imposed a naval blockade that not a single ship could get through."
When asked whether the memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran this week amounted to the "unconditional surrender" he had initially demanded from Tehran, Trump said it was "probably really an unconditional surrender."
Background: The US and Iran signed an agreement this week aimed at halting the war and resolving disputes through negotiations. Following the deal, the parties are expected to enter a new round of talks on issues such as Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.
