Turkish American scientists, academics from leading universities in Türkiye and businesspeople from the U.S. technology sector met in North Carolina for the 2026 Turkish American Scientists and Scholars Association (TASSA) Conference, held at the Sancar Turkish Community Center in Chapel Hill.

The conference was hosted by 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate Aziz Sancar and Gwen Sancar under the theme “Bridging Innovation in the Era of AI: Transnational Impact Across the U.S. and Türkiye.” Participants presented technologies and ventures ranging from health to artificial intelligence and shared proposals for scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.
‘A leading role’ for the community

Türkiye’s Ambassador to the U.S. Sedat Önal, who attended the event, said scientists form a special part of the Turkish community in the United States and should not only strengthen solidarity among themselves but also take a leading role in deepening ties between the two countries and in fostering unity within the Turkish American community, according to the embassy.

This year’s conference was co-chaired by academics Canan Dağdeviren and Hasan Ayaz. The embassy congratulated the co-chairs and TASSA President Ercan Alp and thanked Sancar for hosting.
