A Learjet 60 business jet with nine people on board crashed into a mobile home neighborhood near Greenacres in Palm Beach County, Florida, around 12:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, setting off a massive fireball and scattering burning debris across a busy road.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the jet had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. Dashcam video from a passing car captured the moment of impact.
Mass casualty incident
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue described the crash as a mass casualty incident and, according to British media, confirmed multiple fatalities. The Palm Beach Post reported that as of 3:30 p.m. officials had not confirmed deaths aboard the plane or on the ground, and no official toll has been released. It was not clear whether anyone was inside the mobile home that was hit.
The jet clipped a tree and brought down power lines before slamming into a mobile home in the area of Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North, leaving a burning crater in the road.
Video taken minutes after the crash shows flames and thick black smoke rising from wreckage scattered across a grassy lot as stunned residents watch from the roadside.

Steep final descent
Slowed-down footage shows the jet plunging almost vertically in the final seconds before it hit the ground. Local outlet Boca News Now reported that the aircraft made a sharp right turn before dropping 8,000 feet.
Skies over the West Palm Beach area were overcast at the time, with rain and lightning nearby and easterly winds of 15 mph gusting to about 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Miami. Visibility was 7 miles.
Another driver's camera recorded the fireball rising over Military Trail from farther down the road.
NTSB to lead investigation
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, with the NTSB in charge. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office closed all lanes of Military Trail and urged drivers to avoid the area. The crash site is about 8 miles from President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate.
Close-up footage recorded by a bystander shows the smoldering crater the jet left in the pavement, ringed by twisted metal and burning debris just feet from parked cars.
The Learjet 60 is a midsize business jet that typically carries six to seven passengers and two crew members.
