On a domestic flight in the US, the sound of the adhan from a passenger's phone triggered a security alarm and caused the plane to make an emergency landing. The Southwest Airlines flight from Tennessee to Florida was diverted to Atlanta after the crew assessed the sound as a potential threat.
Immediately after the plane landed in Atlanta, a SWAT team entered the aircraft and detained a passenger on charges of terror and bomb threats. It later emerged that the detained individual was Muslim and that a prayer time app had played the adhan during the flight.
The process that began with the crew's report resulted in an unusual security intervention in US airspace. After landing, the passenger faced the charges.
