The US administration may be considering using the GBU-43/B MOAB bomb if President Donald Trump approves the resumption of attacks against Iran.
The bomb could be used against Iran for the first time, potentially creating serious tensions in the conflict. Questions remain over the extent to which the weapon would help the Trump administration achieve its strategic objectives.

Energy infrastructure and nuclear facilities in focus
The US military was allegedly asked to prepare new attack options against targets in Iran, including energy infrastructure. The plans reportedly include the possible use of the MOAB as well as attack options targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, including Pickaxe Mountain.
MOAB’s impact and purpose of use under discussion
MOAB is considered the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal. The bomb can affect wide areas but was not designed to penetrate targets deep underground.

Because of its wide blast radius, potential use of the bomb could increase concerns about civilian casualties. Trump may also prefer to use the MOAB as a psychological tool against Iran.
