The US Congress has begun investigating allegations regarding FIFA's ties to the former Donald Trump administration and its practices affecting American consumers. Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, announced the investigation in a letter to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In the letter, Raskin alleged that FIFA sought to obtain special privileges from the Trump administration. In return, it was claimed that the Trump administration dropped high-profile corruption cases linked to FIFA.
The congressman argued that US consumers were harmed by FIFA's "exorbitant pricing" and "deceptive sales methods" for World Cup tickets. He suggested that FIFA's rental of an office in Trump Tower and its awarding of a "FIFA Peace Prize" to Trump were part of these efforts to build a close relationship.

Raskin also alleged that the Justice Department dropped previously convicted FIFA-linked corruption cases. He asked Infantino to provide the committee with documents related to possible benefits provided to Trump and his associates, FIFA's ticket sales practices, and contacts with US officials, as well as visitor logs for the FIFA office in Trump Tower. He also demanded that Infantino testify before the committee.
