US President's Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Masad Boulos stated that the US, Türkiye, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia agree that continuing the unification of Libya's political, economic, and security institutions is vital to prepare the necessary conditions for comprehensive elections.
In a statement regarding the quadrilateral meeting held in Cairo on Saturday, Boulos noted that he met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
During the meeting, participants held comprehensive discussions on regional issues.
They affirmed the importance of building on the achievements of former US President Donald Trump and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and enhance security and stability across the region.
The parties emphasized their determination to cooperate in supporting Libya's unity, sovereignty, and long-term stability.
In Libya, there is an ongoing duality between the internationally recognized Government of National Unity, which governs the west of the country from the capital Tripoli, and the government appointed by the Tobruk-based House of Representatives, which governs the east.
The United Nations Mission is striving to lead Libya to elections that will resolve the conflict between the two governments.
