Bill Clinton quotes Quran at Florida rally, says he's tired of anti-Muslim rhetoric
Former President Bill Clinton, campaigning in Florida for Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly, said he was tired of people denigrating Muslims for their faith and cited a Quran verse his daughter had shown him.
Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday he was tired of people denigrating Muslims for being Muslims, quoting the Quran during a campaign stop in Florida for Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly.
Speaking at the Koinonia Worship Center in Hollywood, Florida, the 80-year-old former president said he first heard the passage from his daughter, who read the Quran from start to finish when she was 15. He said the text teaches that God created different peoples not to look down on one another but to know and learn from each other.
His remarks echoed verse 13 of Surah Al-Hujurat, which says people were made into nations and tribes so that they may know one another.
"There are bad actors in every faith, because we're all flawed human beings," Clinton said, adding that he was tired of religious wars and culture wars.
